Chicago!¡!¡

Today I want to talk to you about what I did in thanksgiving. I was in Chicago from Thursday to Sunday with a large number of international students. We had great time there, trying to combine the cultural and leisure time. We walked a lot through downtown Chicago, went to museums….. but the best thing was that at last I saw an urban life with buildings, people on the street, shops .... Something that is impossible to see in Eau Claire. But we did not only focus on tourism. Because we had understood that there were very good deals on the Friday of Thanksgiving, we went shopping in the morning. Why are they called sales? Yes, there is a 50% discount on things, but on things whose price was 400 dollars .... inconceivable!!! So finally I went back home empty-handed from the wind city. A thing that we did that I did really enjoy a lot was singing Christmas songs in the millennium park, holding a candle and surrounded by parents with their little children. It reminded me a lot to the American movies I watched when I was younger, so it was very emotive and nice.

Above all it was a weekend that I think it served to unite even more the group of international friends who I have. This makes that, although I am looking forward to going home for Christmas, I don´t want the semester to be over, as many people are only here until December, and I am sure I am going to miss them a lot and I may not see them again never in my life..... So now it is turn to enjoy these two weeks with that people as much as I can and as much as the papers and exam will let me.

Sweet home Alabama!!

Hello again!
Last week I was really busy to write but today at least I get a while to write here.
I am still thinking in my last travel around the United States and I cannot believe that I have done (together with my awesome soccer teammates) about 36 hours by car!! That is because we went to Alabama to play the Soccer National Tournament so on Tuesday evening we left from Eau-Claire and we started our particular road trip that ended in Tuscaloosa (Alabama); I don’t know if you know more or less the United States geography but the distance between Eau-Claire and Tuscaloosa is like if you want to go from Oviedo to Amsterdam, so is about 18 hours by car!! But hopefully we traveled on the night so I could sleep the most part of the journey.

When we arrived to Tuscaloosa we were really tired so we took a little nap and we got ready for the first soccer game. The fields where we played were really really bad, so we tried to play our best soccer but unfortunately we lost the first game and I got an unfair red card (I think the referee hated Spanish people or I don’t understand why he showed a red card, who knows hahah).

In the next games we got two ties and we won the last one so we didn’t do a very good tournament but we played against the best universities of the United States and we did too many friends so the experience was even better that I had expected. The travel back home was I little bit boring and I was studying the entire journey because I had missed several exams so I had to do those exam this week. We arrived to Eau-Claire on Sunday morning and until today I was studying my ¡five! exams that hopefully were easy so I did them quite good.

This week is thanksgiving so all the American students are going home and in my case I am going to go, together with some international friends, to Chicago until Sunday, so I am sure that it’s going to be a incredible journey and we are going to had a very good time as we had in Alabama!

Obama President

Last night was the elections for the 44th president of the United States. I was watching it on TV at one of my friend's dorm with my spanish and swedish friends. It was really excited for me to be able to watch this great event. We were all thrilled when Obama won more than 270 of the electoral votes! He was the new president of the United States of America!

I like Obama better than McCain so I was happy when he got elected president. I think he will make some good changes for this nation. Now, we have to wait and see what he is going to do about the important issues, such as the financial crisis and health care.

The US is the most powerful country of the world so everybody is expecting great things of him. He has to run a nation in the dark time of the crisis, which is affecting the rest of the world; he must take good decisions.

Now lets wait and see.

Halloween!

It's all over. Unfortunately, my awaited, first and last Halloween has already passed. Today, Monday, once the alcoholic effects of that celtic ancient festival and the hangover have disappeared, it’s time to think about this amazing weekend more carefully.

After almost a month thinking about what kind of weird being I was going to be in Halloween, I finally decided to be dressed up as one of the most famous soldiers during the European middle age: a crusader! I chose that option because I found it easy to wear as well as comfortable and warm for what was supposed to be a really cold night.

On Friday night I had a birthday party in one of my friend’s house. It was an awesome party with all my best friends in Eau Claire. Everybody was dressed up (some of them were really impressive!) and we all had a lot of fun.



After that party we decided to go to the bars to see how the Halloween environment there was. It was amazing walking to the bars and crossing all the time hundreds of people with its different customs and having lot of fun in the street. When we arrived to the bars, it was really like I had expected Halloween to be: crowded bars, people with funny costumes(some with more clothes than others)and everybody dancing and having fun. I really enjoyed it a lot, but I had the every weekend problem: bars closed at 2.30 am even though it was Halloween!! That is something I cannot understand and I didn’t like at all!



On Saturday I was quite tired from last night so I decided to go out only for dinner, have a couple of beers and then going back home.However, although it was not supposed to be
Halloween night, there were many people dressed up and an enormous ambient in the bars, so I decided to stay in the bars until they closed (like I always do: D). But the night was full of surprises and as the time had to be delayed one hour at 2 a.m, I could enjoy one more hour in the bars!!


So that was my Halloween experience. Overall, a wonderful experience that I will always keep in my mind and that I hope I will be able to repeat at some point during my life!

Halloween is coming!

Yesterday , my friends and i, went to buy some accesories and costumes for halloween. At the begining we were in the Mall, but we weren't able to find good costumes, so we finished our shopping in Savers. Savers is a second hand shop where you are able to find many things and with an incredible price!I bought my costume and several accesories for only 15$




This is my first halloween, because in Spain halloween is not very popular and it is not celebrated with the same intensity as here.

I'm looking forward to this weekend,and seeing all your awesome costumes, it could be really fun and it will be an experience that i'll never forget.

Intramural Champions!

Buenos dias!
In the last post, I mentioned that we had qualified for the intramural's final!!, well, we played this final on thrusday and we won 1-0! so we are the champions and the organiaztion present us a blue shirt as proof of our victory!

Well done team!!!

After game, we went out for Water street to celebrate the victory all the nigth and it was really fun! thank you so much for everything mates. We are gonna win the indoor soccer championship next semester too!!

This weekend also got another championship with the university soccer team, so it was a busy weekend! hehe

I wish you all have a good week. In my case, I have many things to do so i will probably visit the library every day this week :(

Just for kicks :)

On Thursday our soccer intramurals team won again. So far our team is undefeated and this Thursday it’s finals. Our team is really happy for this accomplishment because we have to live up to the other international teams that played previous years.

I didn’t get to play a lot on Thursday because someone hit me on my leg and I got a cramp, so I didn’t play as much as I would have liked. I had to take care of my leg because I needed to be good so this week I can play to my best potential.

Our games are really fun because not only we have good communication in our team, but also we use our foreign language as an advantage. This is helpful because the other team can’t understand what we are saying and we are able to make strategies.

Saturday I had to get up early to go and work at the soccer fields behind Bollinger. I think I get to practice my English a lot there because I’m always interacting with people. Once they hear my accent they always ask me where I’m from and when I tell them I’m from Spain they asking me more questions about my country. I like this because I get to share my culture.

Next week I’ll let you know how our team did for the intramurals final. Hopefully we will win and we’ll receive a T-Shirt to prove our victory!
